Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS) Pilani (premier academic institute and the top private engineering college in India) and BITSAA International (alumni organization representing BITS Pilani alumni all over the world) conducted its 1st ever BITSAA Global Meet in 2011 (BGM 2011) at Delhi from January 7th to 9th, 2011. The theme of this event was ‘Transforming Society, Enterprises & Academics through Innovation’. The BITSAA Global Meet in 2011 brought together alumni from all over the world to interact and promote transformational ideas onto a common platform and share views on how to empower BITSians to emerge as global citizens.
The event had highly distinguished and star-studded speakers who run governments, public services, global enterprises, businesses, organizations, institutions, and departments. Some of them were Sam Pitroda (Advisor to the PM), Rajesh Hukku (Chief Strategy Officer-Oracle), Sunit Rikhi (VP-Intel), Prem Jain(VP-Cisco), Laura Parkin (CEO-NEN), Baba Kalyani (CEO-Bharat Forge), Gulu Mirchandani (MD-MIRC Electronics), Revathi Advaithi (President APAC-Eaton Corp.), Prof. SP Kothari (Dean MIT Sloan), Prof. Rajindra Sisodia (Prof. Bentley College), Raju Reddy (Chairman & CEO- Sierra Atlantic), Phanindra Sama (CEO & Co-founder) redBus.in. The Chief Guest of the was Mr. Prithviraj Chavan – the newly appointed CM of Maharashtra State Govt.
Unlike other such events, BITSAA Global Meet kicked off on a very informal note which made the atmosphere all the more lively. The entire venue was buzzing with loud cheers. Around 1500 BITSians attended the event. The first-day events included performances by current students and BITSian bands. The second day of the event was dedicated to the theme of the event: Transforming Society, Enterprises & Academics through Innovation. There were panel discussions on various important issues revolving around the theme, like Evolution and Progress of an Enterprise. Technologies that shape future, Transforming society through innovative actions, Breakthrough ideas in education- Cultivating, Retaining & Nurturing the Zeal for Learning, Critical requirements for our Educational System etc. A very important aspect that was commonly talked about in all the panel discussion was the need for innovation. The panellists were very candid about the discussions and spoke their heart. At any platform, a politician would deliver a calculated and diplomatic speech but at BITSAA Global Meet he spoke his heart and made merry with his batchmates.
The first Edition of BITSAA Global was a big hit. The organization intends to make this a regular(bi-yearly) event. The most important takeaway from the event was understanding the need for ever improving and engaging education. It gives KNOLSKAPE immense pleasure to be one the crucial contributors to make education immersive, accessible, fun and comprehensive.
